George Etheridge

Economic Policy Development Manager

George Etheridge knows public policy and municipality governance. He is a lifelong Detroiter, educated in the Detroit Public School system. George has more than 24 years of legislative experience, having served as a legislative page for the U.S. Senate; a U.S. Youth Ambassador to Israel, Palestine, and Jordan; and a Congressional staffer to U.S. Senator Carl Levin and U.S. Representative John Conyers Jr.

He began his career with the city of Detroit in 2005 as the legislative director for Councilwoman Barbara Rose Collins. Since 2009, George has served in the public sector as a city planner and policy analyst for the Detroit City Council and City Planning Commission, specializing in land use, zoning, and economic development. He has facilitated the passage of more than 60 pieces of legislation within the city, ranging from map amendments to key policy issues.

George has also successfully served as an independent consultant on zoning matters in other neighboring Detroit communities. On a daily basis, he engages in advocacy planning, informing local government on ways to protect the health, safety, and general welfare of our communities.

His aim as Activate Detroit’s economic development policy manager is to ensure that every community in Michigan is a community of opportunity.
